Sunday Evening

Brittany and I visited Gaines this evening. He is continuing to hold his sats at 70% oxygen. Everything else is basically the same. His platelet count is measuring a little low. They are going to test it again. If it is low they are going to give him platelets.

Brittany and I went to CVS and a little grocery store this afternoon and stocked up on the essentials...bread, peanut butter, jelly, ham, mustard, and drinks. We are trying to make our place here in DC feel as much like home as possible. We actually ate a home cooked meal tonight for the first time in a while. One of my friends (the same ones doing our laundry) brought us homemade spaghetti and caesar salad. It was so good. I also get to sleep in a real bed tonight for the first time in a little over five weeks (no more chair/bed).

By the way, one bit of very encouraging news. Each time Brittany and I visit Gaines, we say a prayer before we leave. Tonight, Gaines' nurse spoke to us before we left and told us she said a prayer for him at church this morning.

We will visit Gaines again first thing in the morning and update everyone. By the way, Brittany wants me to mention that today is Jack's birthday (our dog) and that Reed made it safely back to Alabama.

Praying for your family tonight. Hope you guys can get some rest and Gaines stays stable and continues to improve.

Will Reed be coming to stay with you while you're in DC until Gaines gets discharged?

Happy Birthday Jack!!!

I have just checked your blog since Thursday afternoon - A LOT has happened!!! First of all - Congrats - he is beautiful!!!! Keep praying - both for him and yourselves- You are going to be under a lot of stress too - cling to God and each other. When you find yourself beginning to worry and doubt - turn it over to God - he understands and already knows.

My first daughter was born at 32 weeks and spent a month in the NICU, so I know a little of what you're going through - accept any and all help you are offered and spend as much time talking to him and holding him as they will allow! I know he is in good hands - can't wait for ya'll to be back in Alabama!!! I'm praying for Gaines!!!!

Congratulations on the arrival of sweet Gaines!! It always amazes me the intense amount of love you feel for a child the second he's born. I'm the mom of a baby boy who was born at 2 lbs and is now five. It's not easy those first few months in the hospital and they're not lying when they tell you it's a roller coaster ride, but it is SO worth it. Just continue to love on him as much as they will let you and trust me, that little boy knows who his parents are.

I'm praying for your entire family.

Thank you for taking the time to post updates!

Have you been to the Trader Joe's at 26th and L??? Please let me know what I can pick up for you from Costco and the "real" grocery store tomorrow. :)

Prayers for a peaceful night for all of you. Gaines is in good hands, how awesome to learn his nurse was praying for him too!

Glad to hear that Gaines was doing good when you saw him this evening. One thing I noticed when I was in DC was there seemed to be a CVS on every corner, but I don't think I ever did see a "real" grocery store. Enjoy sleeping in a real bed tonight - that chair/bed of yours didn't look too comfortable. Was Reed able to visit with Gaines?

We are praying for all of you! Our daughter was born March 10 at 37 1/2 weeks- which I don't really consider early- but she spent several days in NICU in Pensacola. We weren't there that long- but I know the emotional roller coaster you both must be on and we are praying for Gaines grow strong quickly so you can return to Alabama! Also- do you have a new address at your hotel or the hospital?

Happy Birthday, Jack! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who celebrates my dog's birthday. Glad to hear Gaines is continuing to be stable; what an answer to prayer!

What an awesome God that we serve! His love and His comfort is something that no one else can give to us. How wonderful to know that He is always there to hold our hand and help us through our hardest times.
Continuing to pray for Gaines and for both of you.
The new bed must be a welcome relief from the beds that both of you have been sleeping in, especially Beau.
Also, Happy Birthday to Jack. I know that he misses his family and will be so happy when all of you get home.

Wonderful new that he hasn't needed an oxygen increase.
We are constantly praying for Gaines' lung to get stronger minute by minute.
About the brain bleeds. Grace was born (23 weekers) with a Grade III on the right and a Grade II on the left (Faith doesn't have any). She is 20 months old and has no signs or symtoms of having any long or short term disabilities. She is actually (although born 16 weeks early) at age 18 months developmentally.
We are praying your new little man does not have any but I just wanted you to hear about the good senario also.
we are praying with you.
