Random Thoughts

It's been a little while since I've posted but sometimes I feel like there's just not much to tell. The thing about laying in bed is that the more you do it, the lazier you get. Today has actually been a busy morning. I showered which takes a little while. We got a package yesterday that included shampoo for me and I am so thankful to be smelling fruity fresh instead of like the boy soap that Beau bought for us. Also, we got a package from my co-workers this morning. That took a little while to sift through and digest. I have to take this opportunity to thank them all for their extreme generosity. I work with such good people. I can't even begin to tell you how thankful I am for each of them.

I thought I'd try and fill you in on a conversation I had with one of my doctors a couple of days ago. This poor guy obviously drew the short straw and had to come down here and have me sign some paperwork acknowledging that I new the risks of the c-section that I may have to have. Poor guy then had to say, do you have any questions. I did.

I see doctors everyday but usually they wake me up around 6 and I'm not with it enough to process a real conversation. As this exchange was in the evening, I had my questions ready. Every so often someone would mention something to the effect of, "If you have to have an emergency c-section". I wanted to know just how quickly this emergency business would happen. Apparently if they deemed it emergency, Gaines would be here in about 15 -20 minutes. Crazy. He broke it down like this: 3-4 minutes to get you to the OR, 4-5 minutes to knock me out (an epidural is preferred but not doable in an emergency) and about 4 minutes to get the baby out. I'm sure I'm missing some other part because that doesn't really add up but you get the drift.

I'm still a little unsure as to what constitutes an emergency but I did find out that even a hint of infection (even if no labor is started), the baby is coming out...quickly. I asked what that meant and from what I understand, two instances of a fever could do it. Most of the time the fever would be accompanied by some sort of symptoms. It could be symptoms of something like a respiratory infection or symptoms of an infection around Gaines. If it was infection around Gaines, they'd obviously take him. If it was a fever with no symptoms they'd still take him. Apparently the risk to Gaines would be too high to wait to determine what the fever would be from if there were no symptoms. Basically, when Gaines is born he'll be a preemie (there is no way they'd let us go past 34 weeks) so the last thing he needs is an infection to fight off on top of everything else. I don't know that any of that makes sense but it helped us understand a little bit more.

I'll go for now. I want to rest before Reed gets here. He made it to Atlanta safely and will be here hopefully in about 2 hours. I was worried about them landing here as it was stormy weather this morning but the blue sky is out now. Answered prayers. Please keep praying for us. By my count, only 11 days until 28 weeks.

Love to all,

Brittany

It's so good to hear from you! I am so glad the progress that has been made. Praise God!

I was wondering if I could get your email address. I would love to send you a "care" package and wanted to know what all I could send you. If you would can you email me at wasserwoman08@gmail.com?

Hope you have an very uneventful day (except seeing Reed!)!

Brittany,
It is so crazy how every post you write, I went through those same thoughts/questions/feelings/etc. This post in particular hit home. I remember having the "emergency section" talk and wanting to know every single detail of the event, if it were to happen. (I sent you an email today, in case you are wondering who in the world I am, LOL.)
Anyway,
I had to have an emergent c-section with my baby (she is five weeks old now) because I had placental abruption at 36 weeks...it was so much faster than I thought it could be. I got to the hospital (in Montgomery, Baptist East) and the baby was out of me within 20 minutes. That was someone who just walked into the hospital. So just think, you being there, admitted already, it can be faster than they even told you. You are in such great hands. When I was at UNC, I treasured my residents so much. They were so fresh and GOOD at what they did, because they had so much on the line (pending fellowships.)
Wishing you more "boring" days with nothing to report :)

Still praying for you guys from across the street!

I have some goodies that a friend sent out here for you, and will bring them by tomorrow. If you end up with too much "loot", the residents would be happy recipients of a snack or two anytime. :)

Please let me know if you want me to bring any toys for Reed to borrow while he's here! I meant to get in touch earlier this week but work has been crazy (even have to go help with an open-heart surgery tomorrow morning, grr. Really, who needs new coronary arteries on a weekend???)

You are in good hands at GW and I hope the time continues to fly by.

Hi there. I came across your blog today and your story is so very similar to ours. My water broke at 25 weeks and I have been in the hospital ever since (not away from home, however, so I can't imagine what that has been like for you). I hope you don't mind but I posted your blog link on our blog and have asked those reading it to please remember you in prayer as well. My husband and I are fully convinced that we are still here and the babies are still growing because of the faithfulness of his people to pray. If you want me to remove it, just let me know and I will most certainly do so.

I will keep you in my prayers. I remember 28 weeks is a good point to get too. I was in bed the last 8 weeks with my daughter, pre-term labor and bleeding. She was born healthy! I wish that for you too. Enjoy your little boy's visit. Heidi, coral springs, florida

Beau and Brittany,

Thank you so much for keeping up this blog. I had my surgery Tuesday morning and am only now lucid enough to use my laptop. It was a blessing to see that everything is still going well. We have an AWESOME God don't we! We will continue to pray for all of you. Enjoy your time with Reed.

Brittany and Beau,

I came across your blog today and could not stop reading your story. As a mother who was on hospital bedrest and had a precious little preemie, I can tell you that God is with you and is doing great things. My preemie is now 3 1/2 years old and full of life. I am sure Gaines is the fighter you already know he is. My prayers are with you in your journey. God is great!
