Five Years

Five Years ago today Brittany and I got married. I have been telling her that she can tell her friends that I took her to DC for our five year anniversary (she didn't think that was funny). We do have reservations tonight (for three...Reed) at a little Italian restaurant in Georgetown. A couple here in DC did offer to keep Reed but it will be easier to take him to dinner with us. Plus, it just seems kind of appropriate to celebrate this milestone as a family.

Before I get to Gaines, I would like to let everyone know how incredibly lucky I am to have Brittany as my wife. If you have been following our journey, you probably know what a special person she is. She is an incredible wife and an amazing mother. Reed, Gaines and I are blessed to have her in our lives. I look forward to celebrating ten, fifteen, twenty, thirty and fifty years together.

Last night, I went to visit Gaines around 7:30. When I arrived, his oxygen requirement was at 49%. My heart sunk a little. He had been doing so well for the last two days staying between 35-40%. I talked to his nurse and was told that around 4:00 yesterday afternoon he slowly started to require more oxygen. I stayed at the hospital for his "cares" and left at 9:00. When I left he was still at 49-50%. I called this morning and he was at 42%. Shortly after I left last night his oxygen started to come down and he stayed between 38-40% most of the night. Hopefully, last night was just a fluke and he will get back on track today.

Here is a picture taken yesterday of Gaines with his eyes open.

Beau and Brittany,

Happy 5th Anniversary to you guys!!! We hope you have a wonderful dinner together tonight! You make such an awesome couple and we pray the the Lord will continue to bless your lives together as husband and wife in the years ahead. You both are such an inspiration to us all and we thank you for sharing your personal lives with us during this journey. When Beau returns to work, I'll never look at him the same, now that he has made me all weepy eyed with his posts!! I love the precious picture of Gaines, he looks wonderful and so adorable! He has grown so much. We will continue to pray that his oxygen levels decrease and that his heart will grow stronger day by day!

By the way, Chase pointed to Jack the other night while I was reading th blog, and said "I want that!" Too funny!

Love to all,

The Chumleys

Happy Anniversary!!! I can sympathize with you spending your anniversary at the hospital in the NICU (we spent our first there). Enjoy your evening together.

Gaines is soooooo cute!! He is getting so big. I know it's hard for you to see, since you see him every day, but he has come so far. Keep holding to His hand, and each other.

Man, it's been 5 years? I can still remember trying to throw you in the pool at your wedding. And the first year y'all had Mehoff and you were trying to get him to sit still so you could take Christmas pictures.

Beau and Brittany,

I can't believe it's been five years. Janie and I still cry every time we hear the song "What a Wonderful World" because it reminds us so much of the video we made for the rehersal dinner. And, of course, the first dance Brittany had with her dad.

When Janie and I got married almost 13 years ago we talked about "making memories". Who knew that 13 years later the "memories" would include four weddings and the births of eight beautiful grandchildren. God has truly blessed us as a family.

Eight is Great!

Happy Anniversary Beau and Brittany. I really am praying that there are some really special and blessed moments for you two today, and for all four of you!

Gaines is so adorable. Those eyes -wow! Everytime you post a new picture I can really tell how he's growing, and I just love his sweet, plump baby lips!

Praying for all four of you tonight.
