During our visits with Gaines today he was given a bigger bed. The nurses told us that he is getting older, longer, and needed a change of scenery. It is kind of funny to see him in his new bed because it is a pediatric bed. The bed looks enormous! The nurses also told us that because he is getting older (almost 3 months old) he is getting bored. The new, bigger bed allows us to attach a mobile and to bring him a few toys. We are also going to bring his car seat so he will have a different place to rest other than his bed. The nurses are already giving him some time in an infant swing. I will try and take some pictures of his new "home" tomorrow after we get it set up. I'm sure all the other babies in the NICU will be jealous.
I think Brittany mentioned in the previous post that they reduced Gaines' cannula to only 1.5 liters of flow. This morning they had to increase it back to 2 liters. His oxygen requirement on 2 liters is 55% right now.
Brittany and Gaines' nurse had a good long talk today about his oxygen. I think it is finally sinking in that it is no longer possible that Gaines will be sent home on oxygen...it is probable. According to the nurse, 95% probable. I guess that will just be another step in this journey. We have to keep reminding ourselves...one step at a time.

Oh, my goodness!! He is really growing up. I know he will enjoy his toys and mobile. Looking forward to new pictures. Praying daily for his progress.
WOW! Remember the blogs (haha...I guess you would call them days) when you weren't even allowed to HOLD Gaines for fear of overstimulation??? And now he's graduated to being able to sit in a swing! That's GREAT! I know that it doesn't seem that way to y'all, but to those of us who aren't there everyday (at least physically) his leaps and bounds REALLY ARE QUITE apparent! Just thought I'd give you guys a little BOOST and encouragement! We are still praying SO HARD and are absolutely THRILLED that you're back home!
So awesome that Gaines is going to get some toys and spend sometime outside of bed. I am so sure that we will really enjoy it. Praying that miracles will still happen and that Gaines will go home without oxygen.
You guess are definitely getting closer. Once I brought up her swing and bouncer it seemed to bring new life to her. She was bored and we didn't truly realize that until she started to have things to do. Bringing her mobile up was awesome to watch. She stared and stared. Take lots of pictures.
First of all thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I am not really sure how I stumbled acrossed it but I do enjoy hearing how much Gaines has grown and improved.
Both Reed and Gaines are such cute little boys.
The two of you have such great stregnth and such a wonderful relationship to be able to work together and get through this together. God Bless you and your family.
I am expecting my 1st boy in August and I can't wait. I am alittle nervous about learning boy stuff as I have girls right now!
If coming home on oxygen is what it takes to get Gaines home, it is so worth it! We faced the same thing with our son, and, though it sounds really daunting at first, you actually just get used to it and don't think about it too much. Praying that Gaines comes home SOON!
I'm so happy you are all back in Montgomery and doing well! We'll continue to pray for Gaines lungs to grow :)

He's such a big boy!! It sounds like you guys are getting closer and closer to having your family of 4 under one roof. I know it's frustrating to know that he may have to go home on oxygen, but I'm confident you all will adjust just fine. Plus, you have the added bonus of having a sister who can definitely relate!
