Gestational Diabetes?

Thankfully the answer is no but I had to be tested for it again today. I already passed this test once at my doctor back home but my nurse had reason to believe that I could have it from another test they did this morning. After giving more blood, they determined that I did not have it. The good news is that even if I did have it, it wouldn't affect Gaines or cause an earlier delivery. The bad news is I would have had to control it with my diet or possibly insulin. I wasn't too keen on giving up my sweet snacks so I was thankful for negative results. I celebrated with a Reese's peanut butter egg. Four grams of protein so don't judge.

They also weighed me this morning. While I'm sure part of it was a difference in scales, this scale showed that I had lost 5 pounds from my last appointment at home. One of my doctors was in here while they did it and she didn't seem really concerned so I guess I'm not either. I assume some of it was from a loss of fluid and some could be some muscle loss. I don't really feel weak but I have been in the bed 11 days now so I guess its possible. Because of Gaines' gestational age, they don't really expect him to change a lot in weight right now. If I was further along that would be another story and would probably more of a cause for concern.

Thankfully we have made it past day 10 and are well into day day 11. I was just shocked to see that its almost 4 here. Its amazing how the days are going by. I pray that it stays that way. Now that we have hit and passed day 10 my next goal is to make it to 26 weeks (that's this Tuesday). I don't remember all the details as to why but I remember it being a significant point when my sister-in-law was going through this. I won't let myself ask or research on the internet how the statistics change for fear of freaking myself out but I think its a pretty big deal.

In other news, I finished my book so I'm back into reality. Also, from what I hear Reed is having a great time in Birmingham and has even been saying Mama. That's a big deal because it seemed to be the one word he had absolutely no interest in even trying to say.

One other quick thing, Beau got upgraded to a better chair. One of the nurses snuck him a better one this morning. I hope because they feel like we'll be here much longer. This chair has an ottoman and even reclines.

Please keep praying for us. Pray that we make it to week 26 and beyond, no infection and a baby that is happy staying where he is. We are still so thankful and overwhelmed at all of your support and prayers. Please keep it up!

Hi Brittany. I found your blog through Kelly's and have been praying for you and your family ever since.

I am praying that Gaines is able to stay put for much longer and wanted to suggest that while he is in there, you read the other books in the Twilight series. I found all 4 to be page turners!

Hi Beau and Brittany! I found your blog through Kelly's Korner and have been praying that your new little one stays put for a little while longer! I know you are struggling with being without your sweet little boy, Reed, but I am sure his grandparents have him good and spoiled by now! I will keep checking on you and praying for you and your health.

Psalms 5:3 In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

Each and every morning God hears your voice, as you lay your requests out before Him. Although there are millions of people praying at the same time, He hears you, as if you were the only one praying. Without a doubt, He has awesome plans for you and your family. Still praying for you in Gadsden, Alabama.

great news on the new chair, the no diabetes diagnosis and for making it another day! Smart for you to stay off the internet researching potential scenarios. Better off letting your medical team advise you and answer your questions. My daugther's a 26 weeker and I quickly learned to stay off the web when I had a question. I'm so sorry you're missing Reed's "mama's". I'm a SAHM and my 19 month old also has absolutely no interest in saying "mama" either. She's all over "dada" and even says "woof woof" when she sees a dog (we don't have a dog either I should add) but has no interest in saying "mama". Hang in there and when you see him you'll get a huge hug and a "mama" to remember!!!

I so wish I could come visit and hang out with you guys for a while, but alas, I am in the other Washington... Well, I am praying for you guys and am excited to see how God cares for your family.

I don't even know how I found your blog, but I was SO drawn to your story b/c I've been somewhere similar to where you are now. I spent 6 weeks in the hospital on bedrest trying to keep my twins from coming too early. While I hope that you don't have to stay that long, I also kind of hope you do! Wouldn't that be amazing if Gaines could stay in that long! :) I hate to tell you, but I'm praying for a LONG stay...only for the sake of sweet baby Gaines. I'm hoping it continues to pass quickly for your sake!!! I had a little guy about Reed's age at home at the time too, so I know what missing him feels like for you...it sounds like he's in excellent hands though. I was thankful to have the same situation while I was in the hospital. My twins are now 3 years old!!! They were two months early and had a little bit of a difficult start, but have NO problems at all now...except that they are in to everything! ;) While I was in the hospital, I had the realization that there were nurses who didn't know the Lord who were in and out of my room constantly. I made it my goal to share my faith with each one of them. What a rare opportunity to be able to do that!!! I have no doubt God will use this time and bring honor and glory to His name!

A stranger is praying for you!!!

Somehow I happened upone your blog even though you do not know me. I read something and just had to post- my 19 month old son didn't say mama until he was 17 months and I was VERY concerned. He is now 19 months and says over 70 words (and MAMA!) eatonfamilyupdate.blogspot.com

I came across your blog through Kelly's Korner. As someone who has been through a very similar situation, I just want to offer my prayers and encouragement. I had pPROM for 12 weeks and never had an infection so it's possible to make it for a while. I will say I felt like some of the doctors & nurses never expected to see me at my next appointment. And there I was. God is good. Nine of my twelve weeks of bedrest were at home (my water broke at 16 weeks). I will continue to pray for you, Beau, Gaines and your little man at home. I had two boys who were 6 and 3 at the time. I know what it's like to be gone from home although I was in the same town as them. May God bless you.

YEA!! One more day has passed! The weight loss - same thing happened to me. With the twins I gained a total of 12 pounds and that was delivering at 29 weeks. I lost weight in the hospital too! I was on a very high calorie diet and it still didn't do any good but I did enjoy it very much! I would not worry about it at all. And the missing Reed spell- it just means you're an awesome mom!!! Hang in there and try to evjoy resting ( I know it's hard!) Praying for you guys!

Yay for making it to day 11!! I am from Indiana and just know we are praying for you here as well!!! God is so good. Our little girl was born with Spina Bifida 2 years ago and they said she wouldn't be able to walk unsupported. Well let me tell you that God had other plans...she started walking at 11 months and RUNS everywhere UNSUPPORTED!!! God is always in control!!! Keep up the faith, you're doing great!!

Hey Brittany! I'm glad to hear ya'll are doing well on Day 11.

Just wanted to comment on the saying "mama" issue, and I see other people have commented on it too. Jamie has just started saying it in the past week. It really bothered me, and I even asked the doctor about it. I guess it's more common than we knew!

I will continue to pray for ya'll!

Hi,
I found your blog through another that I read...and I am usually the silent observer type. However, I have walked your path very recently after my water broke at 18 weeks and I spent 8 weeks in the hospital that was also far from my "home"...you could say that God has given me a bit of courage to write this and say that I am thinking of you and truly know how scary this is for you. I am optimistic, but also wanted to say that if you have any questions or just need some support from someone who had the exact thing happen (only I DID get diabetes!) please feel free to ask away. I am still reeling from our outcome, but if I can help anyone else as a result of it, then that is an answered prayer.
Blessings,
Julie

Hi, just wanted to let you know that you are right about the 26 weeks. When my water broke at 24 weeks my doctors just kept saying that our goal was 26 weeks because that was "real baby territory."

I'm praying for 26 weeks and more! I must tell you that I left you a comment last night after reading about you on Kelly's Korner. I had no idea who you were. Today my cousin in formed me that I knew you. I'm Mandi Clark Morris, and we used to carpool to Ms. Kiel's preschool together with Britton Wood and Marc Lambert. Small world huh?

WooHoo! I am so happy for Beau! I know how uncomfortable those chairs can be from the many times I have stayed in the hospital with my children. Maybe your Dr's can prescribe Beau and massage. We are also glad that all test results keep coming back with good news and that little Gaines is happy where he is at and staying put. I will contionue to visit your blog several times a day as usual to stay updated on everything. I start my weeklong hospital stay Tuesday and am amazed that you haven't gone crazy being confined to your bed. I am so grateful that we serve a AWESOME GOD and that He is in control and holding you both in His very capable hands!

Beau and Brittany,
Another mssg from a complete stranger =) Ran across your blog from Kelly's Korner, and have read the whole thing through (just like you not being able to put down Twilight..i also should be sleeping LOL) Just wanted to let you know you have a family all the way in MONTANA that will be praying for ya'll. My sister had twin micro preemies and i was right there in the mix of it all. I can completely understand your concerns from a medical standpoint, but also know that God is the ultimate Physician and Healer. Regardless of when Gaines makes his appearance you are both being refined during this time and being lifted up for any hard/difficult times to come. My 7yr old daughter i squite the prayer warrior & i can't wait to share your story with her. (watch out she LOVES to comment on blogs!...terrible that i let her...but most of the time it's family!) I will pray fervently for you and baby Gaines - our God is an AWESOME GOD so we all know what miracles he can provide. You can touch so many with your story, so keep on blogging through the boredom. There are Dr.'s, Nurses and many others that will see your strength in your faith and it could have a profound effect on them. Watch out for the ways God can use YOU. While you pray to him, he is doing so much in your life in return. Stay strong, but it's ok to be scared sometimes too. You have each other! And yay another visit from your precious lil one (Reed) soon. God Bless.
