We've made it through the first 48 hours.
Thus far Gaines has adjusted pretty well to life at home. Before we brought him home, my biggest concern was that he would require extra oxygen once he was in our house. I guess my thought process was that he was doing so well in the hospital...a sterile environment. Our house is not a sterile environment. How could it be with a dog and a two year old little boy? I figured the new environment might cause him to require more than 1 liter of flow. Fortunately he is doing great. His breathing has actually been really good.
The only concern we have had since we brought Gaines home are spit ups. He spits up a lot. Our doctors assure us that his frequent spit ups aren't anything for concern. However, it does mean that we frequently clean up after him.
Again, so far, so good. Hopefully we will have more time to update later.

I often think of the miracle you have lived...
Praise God! We are thrilled with this news. We continue to pray as you adjust to being a family of 4 in your own home.
I am so excited things are going so well! I have been checking your blog about every 2 hours to see how it was going! Keep up the good work and know many, many people are praying for the entire family!
I know you two are beyond busy with all you have to do now that Gaines is home. Thank you for the update. I've been checking frequently to see how things were gong for you. Be assured that you are still in my prayers.
So happy for you guys! Still praying for you.
Alexandru was a HUGE spitter-upper, I'd sometimes go through 4 t-shirts in one morning. Until the laundry got to be too much (hauling it down in the elevator to the basement) and then I just couldn't be bothered to try to stay clean anymore and would wear the same shirt all day. :)
Is he on a traditional apnea monitor with a belt around his chest, or a pulse ox on his toe? It was a hassle to wash Alex's little "belt" from all the constant regurgitation. I imagine it seems overwhelming to try to negotiate even moving around the house with the oxygen in tow, but you guys will get used to it quickly -- you seem to be some of the most adaptable people I've ever met!
Enjoy having your little snugglebum home with you. :)
I have followed your journey for quite some time now. I am very thankful that Gaines is home and doing well. I pray that he will continue to thrive. Enjoy him!
I pray the nanny does excellent and your able to go to work each day with out too much anxiety knowing he is in great hands.
I have followed your story pretty much since the beginning and I am just so thrilled to see your beautiful boy in his own house! He is such a doll and I'm so thankful to God for all of this wonderful news. May God continue to bless you all as you settle into your new routine - in you OWN house!

Hi! This is Emilee. I took care of Gaines in the NICU but quit working about a month ago so I was not there to see him go home. I just wanted to let the two of you know that I am thrilled beyond words that you have finally been able to take him home! I can't even imagine how wonderful it must be for your entire family. Maybe now your lives are a little less hectic!
I feel lucky that I was able to take care of him. He is such a sweet baby boy! I look forward to following his progress through the blog as he grows!
Sincerely,
Emilee Sanders
